Extra Shark Vacuum Reviews

We have attempted to compare shark vacuums in a comprehensive and detailed manner so you can make a knowledgeable pick about the best shark vacuum for your particular needs.

We have also done a few individual comparisons. Our most popular ones are the Shark nv501 versus the Shark nv752 comparison and the Shark NV803 reviews.

Things to take into consideration when purchasing a Shark Vacuum

Below you will find a few things you can take into consideration when purchasing a Shark Vacuum:

Type of Vacuum

The Shark Navigator and the Shark Rotator have the liftaway feature so they provide you with the benefits of an upright vacuum and a canister vacuum.

The Shark Rockets are a lightweight vacuum and can be transformed to a hand vacuum. If you want a cordless vacuum have a look at the IONFlex line of vacuums.

If you want to purchase a robot vacuum have a look at the Shark RV720 or RV750 models.

Portability

This is one of the most important factors. Do you plan to just clean your hardwood floors or carpets, or do you have a lot of stairs and above ground areas to clean.

If you have stairs or above ground surfaces to clean your best bet would be to go with a Shark vacuum that has the liftaway feature or have a look at the Shark Rocket series that converts to a hand vacuum.

How much work do you want to do

If vacuuming is not your thing consider purchasing a Robot vacuum. Shark has recently introduced a line of Robot Vacuums.

If you don’t want to purchase a Shark Robot Vacuum have a look at the Roomba line of Robot vacuums.

Power

Decide how much cleaning you will have to do regularly. Do you want the cleaning power of an upright vacuum or will you settle for the lesser cleaning power of a Shark Rocket, but increased maneuverability.

Size of Dusting Cup

If you have to clean a high traffic area constantly or if you have pets you should consider the size of the dust cup. It can be a bit annoying to constantly have to empty your dust cup every minute.

Cleaning Surface

It is always best to make a note of the various cleaning surfaces in your house or apartment.

If you have hardwood floors you want a Shark vacuum cleaner that is tailored for hardwood floors. The same principle applies to carpeted areas.

If you have a lot of stairs you might want to consider a Shark Vacuum with a liftaway feature (For example the NV356 or NV752, or NV803).

If you want to clean under appliances, your car or clean up pet hair you should also have a look at the accessories that come with your Shark Vacuum.

Corded or Cordless

If you have a small cleaning area or the thought of tripping over a cord annoys you, consider purchasing a cordless vacuum.

Shark has recently introduced the IONFlex line of vacuums to address the cordless segment of the vacuum market.

Weight

If the weight of the vacuum is an issue the Shark Rocket would be your best option coming in at 7-9 pounds. Keep in mind the Shark Navigator and the Shark Rotator are not much heavier coming in at 13.7 pounds to 15.4 pounds.

The weight issue is an important factor if you are going to have to navigate a lot of stairs or if you are sick or elderly.

How much do you want to spend

Buying the most expensive vacuum is not always the best buying decision.

Your best bet is to make a note of all your must have features and purchase accordingly. You might find that you don’t need the latest technological features to fulfil your needs.

Attachments

One of the beauties of the Shark vacuums is their versatility. The Navigator has the Liftaway feature, the rotator has the canister feature and the Rockets can convert to a handheld vacuum.

Additionally, these vacuums usually come with a large variety of accessories to clean a multitude of cleaning areas. This is one of the main advantages of getting a Shark Vacuum.

For example, if you have pets, the pet power brush will be a godsend. Alternatively, if you want to use the vacuum to clean under appliances you can use the under appliance wand.

For those hard to reach spots you can use their crevice tools or the dusting brush.

Types of Shark Vacuum Models Available

Upright Vacuums

This vacuum is the most common type of vacuum. You get the full vacuuming power. Shark offers a number of upright vacuums, and you will find these listed in their Navigator and Rotator vacuum series.

The Shark Navigator is one of Sharks flagship vacuum products. This vacuum is an upright, lightweight vacuum known for its innovative lift away feature which allows the vacuum to convert to a canister vacuum.

Our pick for the best Shark Navigator is the 356E.

The Shark Rotator offers all the benefits of the original Navigator. In other words it is an upgraded version of the Shark Navigator models.

On the Shark Rotator models, you have such conveniences as LED lights so you can see those hard to reach areas. There is also a nice canister option.

This vacuum is also easier to maneuver than the Shark Navigator. Our favorite pick for the Shark Rotator is the NV752.

Shark recently added DuoClean technology to its latest upright vacuums. Shark has basically redesigned the vacuum head and removed the front wall.

Most tradition vacuums have a solid front wall that causes vacuums to struggle with large debris. The traditional vacuums did little to move stuck on dust on hardwood floors.

Shark redesigned the vacuum head and removed the front wall and added a second rotating soft brush, thus creating duo clean technology.

This allows your vacuum to easily suck up large particles instead of pushing them around. For hardwood floors this means that the vacuum will remove stuck on dust particles that accumulate on hardwood floors.

The Soft brush rolls works in unison with the other duoclean brush, to pull in both large and small particles thus allowing you to get a deep clean experience.

Our favorite shark vacuum that utilizes DuoClean technology is the Shark NV803 model.

The latest technology applied to the upright vacuums is referred to as Apex technology. Shark has added active glide wheels and noise reduction technology to its latest vacuums.

If you are interested in this feature you can have a look at the Shark Apex AX951.

Corded Stick Vacuum

If you are looking for a lightweight vacuum that is easy to maneurve a stick vacuum is your option.

These vacuums don’t offer the vacuuming power of upright vacuums but they are lightweight and easy to maneurve.
Shark Vacuums has corded stick vacuums in the Shark Rocket Series and the Shark Powerhead series.

The main difference between the two models is the Shark Powerhead does not convert to handheld vacuum. The Shark Rocket on the other hand converts to a handheld vacuum so you have the best of both worlds, especially if you plan to do a lot of above ground cleaning.

A few of our favourite models are the Shark HV302, Shark HV322 and the HV382 models.

Shark Robot Vacuums

Shark recently introduced a line of Robot vacuums. Compared to Roomba vacuums these vacuums are very reasonable priced and are on the lower end of the price spectrum when it comes to Robot vacuums.

The main robot vacuums available in this line are the RV720 and the RV750. The RV720 which is the cheaper model has a remote control and the RV750 has WiFi connectivity and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Shark Cordless Vacuums

Shark has recently branched off into cordless vacuums. The main vacuums in this line are IR101, IF201 and IF251.

Shark Canister

Shark does not have a lot of genuine canister vacuums mainly because the vacuums in the Navigator and Rotator lines have the liftaway features which mirror the features of a canister vacuum. The main canister vacuum offered by Shark is the Shark NR96 model.

Shark Handheld Vacuums

Shark does not offer a lot of handheld vacuums mainly because the majority of the vacuums in the Stick vacuum series can be converted too handheld vacuum. The two genuine, 100% percent handheld vacuums are the Shark Pet Perfect Hand vacuums in the SV75 and SV780 models.

Shark Navigator Reviews: Differences between Shark Navigator Models

Our Shark Navigator Reviews are going to focus on these three models: The Shark Navigator NV352, The Shark Navigator NV356E and the Shark Navigator NV370.

Quick Comparison — NV352 vs NV356e vs NV370

NV352 Shark Navigator Lift-Away Upright

  • Has smaller dust cup capacity than the NV356 and NV370.
  • Usually slightly cheaper than the NV356 and NV370
  • Doesn’t have as many accessories as the NV356 and NV370.
  • Cord length is 5 feet shorter than the NV356 and NV370

NV356E Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional: (Best Buy)

  • Has a larger variety of accessories.
  • One of the accessories unique to this vacuum is the Dust-Away Hard Floor attachment with 2 Microfiber Pads.
  • Longer cord length than the NV352
  • Twice the dust cup capacity of the NV352.

NV370 Shark Navigator Lift-Away Upright

  • Same specifications as NV356 vacuum.
  • The accessories are different from the NV356.
  • The main difference in accessories is the Dust-Away Hard Floor attachment with 2 Microfiber Pads.

Shark Vacuum Models — Best Shark Navigator

The key feature of the Shark Navigator is the Liftaway feature that allows you to convert the upright vacuum into a canister vacuum. This feature allows you to clean spaces such as stairs and hard to reach areas above the ground.

If you have Hardwood floors or Carpets or both the Shark Navigator is perfect for you. You can turn off the brush-roll when you are using the vacuum on hardwood floors.

Additionally, the Shark Navigator® Lift-Away® Professional Special Edition is approved by The Carpet and Rug Institute for use on all carpets and area rugs.

These vacuums have great suction as a matter of fact if you have too much suction the suction release feature is a lifesaver. I am sure some of you have had the experience when vacuuming and you have so much suction it’s hard to push the vacuum on your carpet. This feature is perfect if you experience this situation.

This vacuum is also very lightweight. The weight for the Shark Navigators ranges from approximately 12.5 lbs to 14 lbs.

An added benefit of the Shark Navigator is they have anti-allergen complete seal technology which provides more than just HEPA filtration.

Differences between Shark Navigator Models: Shark NV 352 vs Shark NV356E vs Shark NV370

The main differences between the various models are listed below:

Accessories: The NV356E and NV370 have more accessories than the NV352 Shark Navigator model. Some of the additional accessories included are the Pet Power Brush and the Hard floor attachment. An added benefit of the NV370 is this model comes with its own accessory bag.

Weight and Hose Length: There is not a significant difference in weight between the three models we looked at. There is also not much difference in the length of the cord and the hose. They are relatively the same size for all models.

Capacity of the Dust Cup: There is a difference in the size of the dust cup capacity. The Shark Navigator NV 356E and 370 models have a larger dust cup.

Disadvantages of Shark Navigator

  • A common complaint we hear about the Shark Navigator is that the extension hose is too short and not very flexible. As a result, the main body of the vacuum tends to topple over quite easily.
  • Another common complaint was the size of the vacuum head. Some users said it was a bit small compared to other vacuums.

Shark Rotator Reviews: Compare Shark Rotator Brands

The Shark Rotator vacuum offer users all the benefits of the original Shark Navigator Vacuum. You can expect the innovative liftaway feature which allows you to clean items close to the ground and above the ground.

Like the Shark Navigator, the Shark Rotator easily transitions from hardwood floors to carpet floors. Others features that are similar to their predecessor the Shark Navigator are the “never loses suction promise” and the “Anti-allergen seal” that keeps dust and dirt in the vacuum.

The main way the Shark Rotator differs from the Shark Navigator are:

  • The addition of the LED lights that help you to navigate those dark, hard to reach spots.
  • The addition of a Canister caddy so if you don’t feel like carrying around the liftaway pod you can put it in the canister caddy. The beauty of this feature is you can utilize your vacuum as an upright vacuum and a canister vacuum.
  • The control switches for the carpet and hardwood setting are now at the top of the handle. This makes it easier to reach instead of adjusting the setting on the floor nozzle.
  • Another added benefit is the Rotator does not tip over as easily as the Shark Navigator. This was one of the main complaints about the Shark Navigator.
  • An added improvement of the Rotator is it is easier to maneuver than the Shark Navigator. As Shark company stated it has “enhanced swivel”.

Differences between the various Shark Rotator Series

Series Differences
Shark Rotator 500 series
  • Doesn’t have finger tip controls.
Shark Rotator 600 series
  • Doesn’t have the canister caddy
  • Doesn’t have the Rotator Technology With Enhanced Swivel Steering.
Shark Rotator 700 series
  • Canister caddy
  • More sophisticated accessories
  • Rotator Technology With Enhanced Swivel Steering.
Shark Rotator 800 series
  • Has Duoclean technology
  • Has Brushroll garage.

Shark Rocket Reviews

Shark Rocket is a great lightweight vacuum. The beauty of the shark rocket is its versatility. These lightweight vacuums can be converted into a hand vacuum so in theory, you get two vacuums in one.

The HV 300 series were the first shark rockets introduced. The next product introduced was the HV 320 series and the latest is the HV380 series.

These vacuums incorporated such features as extra dust capacity and LED lights on the floor nozzle and hand vacuums.

The last model introduced in the Shark Rocket series is the HV 380 series. This series has all the features of the previous Shark Rockets but they incorporate the “Duo clean technology”.

What this means is that there are two brush rolls that work together at the same time to remove large, small and stuck on particles.

Compare Shark DuoClean Models

DuoClean is the term used to describe the technology used in some of sharks latest vacuum types.

Basically duoclean refers to the unique characteristics of the cleaning head. Traditional vacuums usually have a solid front wall so you find these vacuums struggle with large objects. They usually just shove them around instead of sucking them up.

Shark decided to change up the vacuum head design by removing this front wall and adding a second rotating brush; thus the term duoclean technology.

The benefit of this duoclean technology is this allows the vacuum to suck up large particles. Additionally the soft brush help to remove stuck on particles on surfaces such as hardwood floors.

The DuoClean technology is available on both the Shark upright models and the Shark stick models. You will find models from the NV771 up usually have DuoClean technology while in the shark stick vacuum lines you will find models that are HV382 and up have Duo Clean technology.

When you are comparing models in the DuoClean series, have a look at the accessories that is usually the main difference.

Compare Shark Apex Models

Shark recently introduced the Shark Apex models. In this case Shark has made their vacuums more user friendly. The three main features added are as follows:

  • Active glide technology – This makes the vacuum easier to manoeuvre
  • Noise reduction technology – This one is self-explanatory!
  • MultiFlex under appliance wand – This accessory allows you to reach under furniture and free standing compact storage.

Discontinued Models and the Keurigs that have replaced them

The Keurig coffee maker range has certainly seen some changes as models have come and gone. This can just add to the confusion of what to buy. So here we set out what has been taken out of production and what it has been replaced with.

  • The entire B series the company launched with. This was replaced by the 1.0 series K range — the B model number was replaced by the same K model number.
  • The entire 2.0 series — except the K250 was replaced by the K-Select and K-elite
  • The K10 in the 1.0 series was replaced by the K15.
  • The K45 in the 1.0 series was replaced by the K55.
  • The K60 in the 1.0 series was replaced by the K65 which has also been discontinued.
  • The Keurig K300 has been discontinued.
  • The Keurig K450 has been replaced by the K475 model.

Keurig 1.0 vs 2.0 : Keurig “Generations” & Discontinued Models

Keurig is actually a company which is 20 years old. Though it may feel like their products are very new to the market, they have been in the coffee industry a long time.

Previous incarnations include the “B-Series” and the “Vue” models. These have been discontinued, leaving the “K-Series” as making up the current available models.

Within the Keurig K-Series there are two types of model. It helps to think of them as generations.

These are the 1.0 models of coffee machine (the first generation) and the 2.0. Both still have models which are in production. Realistically, the changes in general aren’t massive.

Both still do a very similar job in terms of brewing coffee. The main changes were to do with the pods which the coffee makers take.

The 1.0 generation allowed the use of pretty much any K-Cup or compatible pods. Companies were able to make their own versions and these would work absolutely fine in a 1.0 machine.

When the 2.0 range came out, this became far more difficult. Keurig introduced technology which meant these types of ‘off-brand’ coffee were blocked from working.

There were hacks and workarounds, but this brought a lot of criticism for the brand.

The 2.0 range however, addressed much of the criticism the brand gets around use of plastic and the waste created via the method of brewing.

The answer saw the introduction of the “My K-Cup”, a reusable cup which slots into the usual compartment for the K-Cup and allows you to brew using your own ground coffee. This cuts down vastly on the amount of packaging waste.

The most modern products on the market including the K-Select and K-Elite have returned to being able to use any pod, and the features continue to grow along with the range.

An iced coffee mode is among the newest features to join strength control to give you different ways to alter your brew.

Smallest  and Most Portable Keurig

Maybe you have a small kitchen, a dorm room, or vacation home. Perhaps you like the security of taking your favored brewing method with you when you travel. Then small is best and Keurig has that covered.

K-Mini and K-Mini Plus

Keurig’s slimmest brewer is the 5” wide Mini. Highly portable and stylish, this machine will give you the coffee you love in the method you trust just about anywhere.

It comes with a strong brew option, a choice of cup size between 6-12oz, will accommodate a 7” tall travel mug, and is compatible with the My K-Cup universal reusable coffee filter, so you can brew your own ground coffee. The K-Mini Plus is the same machine but comes with a pod storage unit for up to 9 K-Cups and fits in your brewer. Click here for a full spec and price.

K10 and K15

The K10 and K15 come in at 6.9” wide, larger than the Mini Plus but still ideal for those looking for compactness. It offers three cup sizes. The K10 is the predecessor of the K15. They look exactly the same, but the K15 comes in a choice of colors: black, red, blue, platinum, and jade.

Keurig Buying Guide

We’ve put together a handy buying guide, comparison and reviews of the best Keurigs to allow you to navigate your way through their big range.

The premise behind a Keurig is pretty simple. Each of the coffee makers takes pods which contain ground coffee, hot water is then pushed through, brewing a fresh cup of coffee in a process which takes just a minute or two (and sometimes less).

In terms of ease of use, there aren’t many simpler ways to get a coffee which is a big upgrade on instant coffee. This is why Keurigs have become so popular in kitchens and offices the world over.

The fact that there are so many models means a lot of confusion when it comes to which to buy and which features are useful for your needs.

Water Reservoir and Filter

Other than your pod, the only thing you need to add to the machine is water. Most coffee machines have some sort of water reservoir, but not all.

Keurigs range has some mini coffee makers such as the K10 which do not have a reservoir and require the water for each individual coffee to be put in at the time of brewing.

The machines which do have water reservoirs vary hugely in terms of capacity. Some can can hold around 40 oz, whereas the larger models in the range can hold more than double this amount.

Having a large capacity for water means you aren’t constantly refilling the machine, perfect for a machine which sees a lot of use throughout the day.

The size of reservoir required will also depend on the size of the coffees you are making. Everything from a small 4 oz serving to massive 30 oz carafes can be made in a Keurig coffee maker.

The filter is another feature related to water and a consideration when choosing a coffee machine. Some come with a filter, some don’t.

Most have a way a filter can be attached, even if they don’t ship with one when you purchase.

Filters are a great way to improve the purity of water, and while the main benefit is taste, this can also mean your machine is more likely to last far longer.

Pods and Pod Sizes

The “Pods” are the little packages of coffee which slot perfectly into your Keurig. One is required for every brew. Pods are a cause of some controversy in the Keurig range.

For a time, the environmental impact was heavily criticized, but Keurig have made big steps to ensure all of their pods are eco-friendly in the future.

Pods come in different varieties which are designed to tie in with the size of brew. The standard K-Cup is designed for single brews, but other pods are available for larger sizes. The most common pod types are:

  • K-Cup: Suitable for single servings from 4 oz to 10 oz.
  • K-Mug: Normally used for sizes 12 oz to 16 oz.
  • K-Carafe: For batch brews and sizes from 24 oz to 30 oz.

Another type of pod which is available is the reusable “My K-Cup”. As well as this, there are also reusable pods available which aren’t made by Keurig.

Whether ‘compatible’ pods work will depend on the generation of Keurig your machine is in. More on generations later, but generally, generation 1.0 will allow use of compatible pods.

Controls and Features

The control panel ties in closely with the features of your Keurig, and is likely to play a big part in your buying decision.

So what do we mean by features? In coffee machine language, features are basically any choice you can make to let you alter the brew of the coffee.

These are all controlled by a panel on the Keurig, either by buttons or by display screen.

Some common features of Keurigs are listed below. Only you will know which are useful to you and which are unlikely to be on your shopping list!

  • Brew sizes: Most keurigs will give you some control over the size of your brew, there may be two or three options or up to 10 different choices.
  • Strength settings: A relatively new addition to the range, strength settings are the option to choose how strong you want your cup of coffee.
  • Favorite settings: Being able to save your favorite brew settings and return to them at a later date.
  • Auto on/off: Most Keurigs come with the ability to program automatically turning on and off when in use or when not required.
  • Iced mode: Some Keurig coffee makers have started to come with extra features such as the ability to brew a coffee specifically to be served over ice.
  • “Frothy” and barista styles: Some of the high level commercial Keurigs offer the ability to make more barista style coffees such as lattes or cappuccino.
  • High altitude settings: Allowing for easier brewing at low temperatures and high altitude and saving on the electricity consumed.

Reading through the features, you will probably have some idea of which appeal. Some may be overkill, some might be exactly what you are looking for.

Ultimately, the Keurig range will probably have something perfect for your needs.

Price

Price is bound to play a part. The difference in price between the mini models of Keurig with limited features and the all-singing, all-dancing, top of the line models is huge.

You will probably have a budget in mind that you plan to spend on your Keurig, fortunately the options at every price point make a good cup of coffee.

Cheapest Keurig Coffee Makers

Well, you love your coffee but that doesn’t mean you want to pay more than you need to for a coffee maker. Here are the machines with the best prices.

K-Mini and K-Mini Plus

The slimmest and the cheapest is the brand new K-Mini. Great if you have little space or want something portable. This model doesn’t have a water reservoir — you simply fill it up for each brew for any cup size from 6-12oz. You pay more for the Plus model, but it comes with a pod storage unit that fits in the machine. It comes in a choice of black or red.

K50 1.0 series Classic

This brews three cup sizes, 6oz, 8oz and 10oz, and has a useful 48oz water reservoir. You also get a selection of tea, cocoa, specialty and iced beverages. You can find it in four colors. It’s a great machine for anyone who wants great coffee and no extras.

K200 2.0 series Plus

This is also a good price. It is a slim machine that can serve 10 different brew sizes for cups, mugs and carafes. Look out for the limited edition cashmere grey — very cool. If you expect to be serving coffee to a few people at once, this is a good choice.

K55 1.0 series Elite

Probably the best-selling budget model, this is a great option if you want affordability with few extras. It has three brew size options, a 48oz reservoir and it comes with Quiet Brew Technology and a K-Cup variety pack.

Models that come with the most accessories

Do like to get as many extras as you can for your dollar? Here are the models that give you the most.

Models that have the largest brewing size

Brew sizes comes in four different flavours: up to 10oz, up to 12oz, up to 18oz and up to 30oz.

The largest cup size is 18oz and all the models that give you this whopping cup of coffee also give you the choice of a 4oz, 6oz, 8oz, 10oz, 12oz, 14oz, and 16oz. But there are some differences.

The V600 and V700 are both domestic models, but while the V600 water reservoir is 60oz, the V700 is slightly larger at 74oz. The V1200 and V1255, suitable for commercial use, both have an 80oz water reservoir and can take coffee grounds as well as pods. There’s little, if any, difference between them.

The biggest brewers, however, are the 30oz monsters for filling up your carafe. They are all part of the Keurig 2.0 series. Because they take the K-Cup, K-Mug and K-Carafe coffee pods, they have brew-size choices of 4oz, 6oz, 8oz, 10oz, 12oz, 14oz, 16oz, 22oz, 26oz, and 30 oz. The major difference between them is their water reservoir size.

  • The K200 and K250 both have a 40oz water reservoir and neither have temperature control. The K200 comes with extra charcoal filter and descaling solution.
  • The K300 and K350 both have a 60oz reservoir and come with a carafe. The K300 has an interactive touch screen feature.
  • For a 70oz water reservoir, there is the K425, which also has temperature control and color interface, the K450, which comes with a water filter starter kit, and the K475. This one doesn’t come with a carafe, though.
  • The biggest brewers with the biggest water reservoir are the K525, K545, K550 and K575. They all hold a full 80oz of water, so you don’t have to fill them up so often. The K545 has a large screen and comes with a reusable My Cup pod. The K575 doesn’t come with a carafe, but it has the largest color touch screen display of all the 2.0 series machines.

Which Keurig should I buy in 2021

Best Keurig For Home Use – Keurig K55

The Keurig K55 is one of the highest selling coffee makers in the brands history. Although not the newest, it certainly has a good blend of features and affordability. So why is this recommended for home use?

Keurig K-Classic K-50 Coffee Maker, Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Brewer, 6 To 10 Oz. Brew Sizes, Black

While not packed full with some of the features we see on offer right at the high end of the market, the K55 has plenty for most of us to be excited by.

It offers coffee in individual servings of 6 Oz, 8 Oz and 10 Oz and while it doesn’t have the strength control or iced functions we’re seeing in newer products, it still brews a great cup of coffee.

The fact it is from the 1.0 elite range means that it is one of the models which can benefit from the use of unbranded K-Cups.

Not something all of us will be excited about, but it is a way to be eco friendly, using reusable K-Cups or at least recyclable models.

The K55 has button controls rather than the LCD panel design we’re starting to see in some of the other models (we’ll explore this later).

The touchscreen designs are nice, but for most of us there is no issue in using a button design, especially if it means saving on the cost of the machine.

The buttons are very simple to follow, and it still has indicators for when you need to refill the water.

The main upgrade from the basic ‘mini’ options in the Keurig range such as the K10 is the fact that this has a water reservoir, meaning you can hold and filter water on the machine.

There is no filter included, but this is very easy to add on to your K55. Combine a filter with the ability to descale the K55 with a descaling kit available from Keurig, and you can extend the lifespan of your coffee machine.

The K55 is fairly basic by the standards of the Keurig range, but the good features combined with the value for money on offer make it a great option for home brewing.

Pro tip: If you are looking at the K45 or K50, this is a very similar model which can get confusing. The features are very similar but this has taken over from previous iterations on the market.

Keurig K15 Single Serve Compact Coffee Maker

The smallest models of Keurig don’t offer a huge amount in terms of features. If you are looking for a coffee maker with a lot of flexibility, stay away, but if you are looking for something you can take out and about with you then the K15 is the Keurig to look at.

Keurig K15 Coffee Maker, Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Brewer, 6 To 10 Oz. Brew Sizes, Black

The portability of these very compact machines is virtually unrivalled. This has made the small coffee machines such as this, and the older version, the K10, quite popular.

Uses include a coffee machine for your own desk at the office, taking to a dorm room at college or even having in your camper van!

The dimensions (6.9”³W x 10.7”³D x 10.8”³W) are pretty much small enough to take with you wherever you have access to power and water. Even the power cord has been designed in a way that is easy to fold it away.

There are a few downsides to the model, and to say its features are basic would be a real understatement. There are very few options available, and though it can brew in 6 Oz, 8 Oz or 10 Oz brew settings, many have reported that increasing the size does weaken the brew somewhat.

Another downside is the lack of any sort of water reservoir. This coffee machine can only hold enough water to make one cup of coffee.

While it probably won’t win in a 1 to 1 battle with any other Keurig on features, the K15 is indisputably the most portable coffee machine. If this is your main criteria then look no further.

If you are looking into the differences between this and the K10, there are very few except for ironed out bugs and a slightly more modern design.

Keurig K250 – Keurig 2.0 Model

The K250 is one of the best models in the K 2.0 series, with a great balance between features and value. While similar in size as something like the K50, this has become very popular due to the added options to its 1.0 competitors.

Keurig K250 Coffee Maker, Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Brewer, With Strength Control, Black

This can brew in a huge variety of sizes, and allows you to use the K-Carafe as well as the K-Cup.

This means that brews up to an incredible 30 Oz are on offer. 30 Oz isn’t recommended for a single serving, but if you regularly drink coffee with others this can be perfect, making the K250 a popular model for those who regularly have guests at home or in offices. Serving a Carafe of coffee can be great for meetings, for instance.

This was one of the first Keurigs to bring the strength control option. This is a great way to personalize your coffee, and give it a little boost.

Some have complained in other models that the bigger brews lose a little bit of strength, but this can be combated with strength controls.

Another big upgrade from many of the 1.0 models is the LCD control. This is easy to use and allows you easily to control all of the new options available to you.

This model also has an included water filter (it has a smaller sibling, the K200, which doesn’t offer this). However, the smaller 40 Oz water reservoir has come in for a little criticism.

If you were to brew a 30 Oz carafe as is possible with this, then most of your water is used up in one go.

All-in-all, if you are looking for brew strength controls and plenty of options in terms of brew sizes, you can’t go wrong with the K250, as long as you can put up with a 40 Oz water reservoir. If you need bigger than this, there are other options…

Keurig K575 – Keurig 2.0 Model

Another 2.0 model which we highly recommend, this has a lot of similarities with the K250, and one big difference, it contains double the water in its reservoir.

Keurig K575 Coffee Maker, Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Brewer, Programmable Brewer, Platinum

The water reservoir is something more in line with the capacity you might hope for if you are regularly making large amounts of coffee.

If you plan on brewing a couple of Carafes every day then with the K250 you will have to refill your reservoir, whereas this can handle multiple batch brews.

The touch screen panel is signature of the 2.0 range, and keeps the ease-of-use while giving a more modern feel to the Keurig. The extra large display is simple to navigate in spite of all the options added in the K500 range.

These features include the 10 different brew sizes, strength and a clock. Although the other features (customizable wallpaper and a night light) are great little extras, most are in agreement that these are far from essential when it comes to making good coffee!

It is hard to mention any of the 2.0 models without mentioning the fact that you are a little more restricted due to only being able to use official Keurig K-Pods and K-Carafes.

If you plan on using the reusable “My K-Cup” this isn’t a disadvantage, but for using pods it can be frustrating.

Because of the large size and huge amount of features and controls, you will end up spending more to get the K575 than most other Keurigs.

However, if you love gadgets and the controls mentioned appeal to you then it can certainly be worth it.

Being able to brew lots of coffee at a time, with size and strength settings is a huge draw for any of us and the K575 does it brilliantly.

B3000SE

The 1.0 Commercial brewer is for large offices or where you want to provide customer self-service. It brews 35-40 cups before you have to service it and plumbs straight into the water supply. With four brew sizes, temperature and strength control, a four button black and white, bilingual LCD display, and an automatic pod ejection system, it is ideal for high self-service demand. It is also ANSI certified for food service.

Keurig Vue Series

The Vue series was Keurig’s venture into café style coffee with a frother function and using K-Vue pods. It was only around a couple of years though before it got discontinued, along with the pods. But there are still many machines out there and you can buy a pod adaptor . This lets you use K-Cup pods or your own ground coffee in Vue machines, meaning you can still get a fresh cup of coffee.

Here are the five Vue machines.

V500: The most basic of the Vue series and great for café-style drinks. It has six brew sizes, 4oz to 16oz, and a 60oz water reservoir. And with temperature and strength control you can fully customize your coffee. It comes with a froth button for café frothiness and a function to brew over ice. It also has a water filter and a black and white touch screen display.

V600

This machine differs in two ways from the V500: you can brew an 18oz drink — taking the number of brew sizes to eight, and it comes with a variety K-Vue pack. Aside from that, they are the same.

V700

This is the V600 with two upgrades: a 74oz water reservoir, and a full color touchscreen.

V1200

With this model, the Vue series steps into the commercial coffee world. Most features are the same as the V700, but it has a larger water reservoir at 80oz, and a UL commercial certificate. It also sports the highly convenient “My Brew” technology that reads your pod and sets the controls — fool proof. It comes with the pod adaptor so you can use K-Cups and your own grounds.

V1255

The same model as the V1200. It replaced the V1255 when it was continued.

Rivo Espresso machine

Debuting in 2012, the Rivo Espresso was Keurig’s offering for single-serve espressos. But, along with the Vue series, the Rivo was discontinued just two years later, its pods, too. Unlike the Vue series, though, there is no adaptor to let you use other pods. But there are still some machines available — probably pretty cheap.

The Rivo R500 does give you a decent espresso though and in two sizes, 1.4oz and 2.8oz. It has a 60oz water reservoir, but no water filter, temperature control or strength control. But it does have a frother for your creamy drinks and it comes with a frother pitcher with lid.

Conclusion

We have selected the very best of the Keurig models, but the range is huge. Many of the products on this list have similar ‘sibling’ products.

For instance, the K575 has superseded the K525 and K550. This can make it very confusing to work out which features you need and how the models themselves differ. Our buying guide is designed to make that easier.

There is not really one specific “best” product in the range. No “one Keurig to rule them all”. What we have is a lot of different features and options, some of which will suit you down to the ground.

Whether you need a small, portable and modest Keurig or a huge model for brewing 30 Oz at a time, there’s something here for your scenario and you need to consider exactly what you need before deciding which works for you.

Is a Keurig Worth It?

[ad_1]

In our article today, we are going to help you compare Keurig to its competitors and figure out is a keurig worth it? We will talk about why you should get a Keurig machine, what factors to consider when deciding which Keurig machine to get, and when you shouldn’t get a particular type of Keurig machine.

History of Keurig

Keurig was founded in 1992 by John Sylvan and Peter Dragone. Since then, the company has grown a portfolio of over 100 brands. Keurig made the My K Cup, and it was available for sale in 1998 across the U.S., and most recently, in 2016, these Cups are 100% recyclable.

This prestigious company is top rated on most coffee maker lists and has won numerous awards in the last decade, including the American package design award, the food and beverage innovators award, and the corporation of the Year award.

Why Get a Keurig

Some of the Keurig machines are relatively small and lightweight. These small lightweight machines are very useful for persons who do not have a lot of space available for a coffee maker or need to move their coffee maker around from time to time.

The portability of these coffee machines makes them ideal for ever-changing office spaces, small apartments, college dormitories, and so on.

Quality Coffee/Latte/Cappuccinos and Other Beverages Made Easy at Home

Some people really enjoy getting their beverages from coffee shops because of the consistency and quality that they get at these places. Some coffee machines simply cannot reproduce this, so it makes no sense you get them.

Some Keurig machines allow you to adjust the temperature and the strength of your brew so that you can consistently get the taste you enjoy. In addition to this, Keurig also offers coffee makers that can brew lattes, cappuccinos, and other specialty drinks from the comfort of your home.

Carafe for Friends and Family

A lot of Keurig alternatives on the market do not offer a carafe option, but Keurig has a few coffee makers that are compatible with a carafe. Having a carafe coffee maker in your home allows you to not only brew single cups for yourself but enables you to brew a full carafe to serve other people, such as visiting friends or family members.

Besides having coffee in bulk for friends and family, a hot carafe of coffee enables you to simply pour your coffee anytime you want without having to brew a fresh cup.

K-Cup Compatibility

Keurig K-Cup pods can be considered as the universal standard for coffee pods. All Keurig machines are compatible with these K-Cups, but they are not only produced by Keurig. There are hundreds, if not thousands of coffee, tea, and specialty drink makers that produce their products in K-Cups.

This means that owning a Keurig coffee maker gives you the added convenience of brewing thousands of different flavors without having to worry about dealing with pod compatibility.

Prices

Keurig coffee makers are not usually the most affordable on the market but are also not always too pricey. Their basic models can be anywhere from 30 to 50% more expensive than competitors.

The models that they offer that can be considered mid-range like the K-Duo are somewhat on par with the market price for coffee makers in that class. Their luxury end models like the K Cafe are more expensive than similar coffee makers in most cases, between 30-50%.

When is a Keurig not worth it?

Keurig machines are quite convenient and very useful in most cases, but sometimes getting a particular type of Keurig coffee maker is a wrong choice. When this happens, the device is just not worth it in the end. Read these topics carefully to ensure that you don’t waste your money.

Buying a Single-Cup Reservoir Coffee Maker for Many People

If you have a large number of persons that crave coffee in the morning, buying a single-serve coffee maker with a single-cup reservoir, just won’t do. This coffee maker will not be sufficient to serve everyone, so instead, get something with a carafe or at least a big enough water reservoir.

Buying Carafe (K Duo) For a Few People

If you don’t have a lot of coffee cravers at home or you don’t entertain many people, there isn’t a need for you to get a Keurig machine with a carafe. Carafes are particularly useful when you have many persons who need coffee or if you drink multiple cups in a short period.

If you buy a Keurig machine with a carafe and you don’t use it, you are really wasting your money, and if you get the Keurig K Duo, you are wasting counter space as you could have gotten a smaller model.

Buying High End with Loads of Features That are Never Used

If you like your basic cup of joe without the bells and whistles, then you should think about getting a Keurig machine without the bells and whistles. One of the great things about the Keurig line of coffee makers is that Keurig has something for everyone.

There are basic models with little to no additional features, all the way up to the luxury models with tons of features. If you know that you will never utilize extra features after you have purchased your Keurig coffee maker, you don’t need to spend extra money to buy a large coffee maker that you won’t fully utilize.

Buying Basic Models When you Prefer Specialty Drinks

If you know that you are not a basic coffee lover, try not to waste your time getting a basic Keurig model, as it will not be sufficient for your coffee needs. If you get a basic model and don’t enjoy the type of coffee it produces, you will very likely get your coffee from a coffee shop, and your coffee maker will be unused.

Keurig has plenty of coffee makers that allows you to brew different strengths and types of beverages. The K Cafe is one with multiple drink options, so if you know you love your specialty drinks, make sure you get a Keurig coffee maker that can make them.

How does Keurig compare to its competitors?

Keurig machines are in some ways better and in others not as good as some of their competitors. In general, the Keurig machines that are budget options or basic models generally have similar features to their closest competitors, except a self-cleaning option, and they are usually more expensive.

The Keurig machines in the mid-range have a lot of similar features to competitive brands, and the prices are generally similar. Unfortunately, at the luxury end of the line, Keurig machines are generally higher-priced, and they don’t always have as many features as their competitors.

Thinking of Buying a Keurig, a few things you should consider

Keurig has a vast line of coffee makers, so it is easy to get sidetracked with the different models’ features, but remember that you should try to spend within your budget. If your budget is unlimited and you will need all the features, then go ahead and get whichever machine fulfills that need.

If you have a budget that can accommodate a machine with some useful features that are better than the basic model, there are quite a few machines that you can choose from. If you have a limited budget, Keurig also has machines that may not have a ton of features but can produce quality coffee at the lower end of their product line.

Counter Space

Coffee makers come in multiple different sizes and shapes. Before you get a coffee maker, think about where you are going to put it. If you have unlimited space, you don’t have to worry about this.

Identify a space in your kitchen or wherever in your home that your coffee maker will be used, and consider the amount of space available before making your purchase. If you only have a small amount of space, but you need a coffee maker capable of producing a lot of coffee, you can think about getting the Keurig K Duo Plus.

What will You Need it For

If you need a coffee maker that can produce specialty beverages such as lattes, cappuccinos, and others, you will need to get a coffee maker like the Keurig K Cafe. If you need a coffee maker that can produce for multiple persons at one time, you will need to get one of the Keurig K Duo models as these have a carafe.

Try to match your needs with the coffee maker that has features to satisfy them. It is always best you buy based on your needs so that you don’t waste your time getting a coffee maker that you will need to replace shortly.

Conclusion

Keurig has a very famous, reliable line of products, but they are somewhat pricey and not always the best on the market. They have many useful features and a vast range of options to choose from but so do other competitors. Weigh your options before purchasing so you don’t regret it.

5 Tips to Make Cleaning Your House a Breeze

[ad_1]

I’m not what people would call “The Queen of Clean”… if anything, I’m far from it. But I do like to have a clean house… and I do get stressed out when my house is a mess.

This is exactly what inspired me stop approaching house cleaning the way I had always approached it and start finding a new, better way to go about cleaning.

Clean Home

See, I used to spend hours (h-o-u-r-s) cleaning my house every single week.

And, since I was a stay at home wife, even though I didn’t enjoy spending hours every week cleaning, I had the time to do it, so I didn’t look for ways to make cleaning the house easier.

However, after starting up a business and becoming a mom… things had to change. I simply didn’t have 3 hours to spend cleaning my house each week.

I had two options – either never clean, since I didn’t have the time to continue cleaning as I had been, I might as well not clean at all (right?), OR I could learn how to clean my house fast and efficiently. I chose option #2.

Since picking up on some pretty cool house cleaning tips, I’ve been able to significantly cut down on the amount of time spent cleaning while still managing to keep and maintain a clean house.

Oh, the hours I could have saved if only I would have learned all this earlier on in life.

Since you’re here, there’s a good chance cleaning the house isn’t what you’d willingly choose to spend a Friday evening doing, either, and you’re looking for some house cleaning tips to make it fast and easy.

So, let’s get right to it…

How do I clean my house fast?

The key to cleaning any house fast, regardless of the size of house and without doing a sloppy job is simply a matter of cleaning your house in a specific order.

This prevents you from wasting time cleaning things twice, which we’ll talk about in a bit, and getting into the right mindset to tackle your house in a timely matter – which we’ll cover exactly how to do below.

Getting into the right mind-set

Let’s face something right out of the gate – sometimes, no matter how hard you try to get into the mood for cleaning, it just doesn’t happen.

Sometimes it feels like you have as much of a chance to find an ounce of cleaning motivation as you do of finding a big gold nugget hiding in the pantry.

Slim. Very slim.

I talk all about motivation here and how to find your cleaning motivation when it’s lost (or you never had any to start with), but the gist of it is this:

Find something absolutely tiny and doable to start with

When you have no motivation to clean, walking into a house that’s a disaster and telling yourself, “I’m going to clean this. Now.” likely won’t work very well. You’re more likely to get overwhelmed and push the task off than to actually grab your cleaning supplies and start cleaning.

The best way to start when you have no cleaning motivation is to find a tiny task that takes no brainpower to do, and do it.

This may be something as simple as shaking the floor mat off outside or wiping the kitchen table off.

It doesn’t matter what it is that you choose, all that matters is that you choose something easy to do and something that will offer quick results.

When you’re overwhelmed, your brain needs a quick win to get motivated to continue cleaning – so right now we’re not focusing on cleaning the entire house… we’re focusing on doing something small – seemingly meaningless – to get into the cleaning mindset.

This area should be somewhere central, something that you see often, so you can see your results every time you walk past it.

It should also be bothersome. It should drive you nuts to see it dirty (which should be pretty easy – because chances are, your entire house is driving you nuts right now).

The area you choose should also be, just like we talked about, tiny. Someplace super easy that you can clean in 5 minutes or less, but also something that will give you a feeling of accomplishment once it’s done.

That is the best thing you can do to find your cleaning motivation when it’s lost – or you never had any to start with.

5 house cleaning tips to make cleaning a breeze

1. Make a gameplan

I talk more about exactly how to create a cleaning gameplan in my post 4 Hacks That Will Make You a House Cleaning Genius, but the easy way to make a cleaning gameplan is to follow these specific steps:

  • Make some goals: Think of a few goals you’d like to accomplish while cleaning your house – what are certain areas you want to clean first and how do you want those areas to look after you’re done cleaning them?
  • Set a deadline: Create a time limit. This step is vital. It keeps you accountable and on track, this way you don’t get distracted and forget about cleaning, because you’ve set a deadline that you’re determined to meet. Try to think of a doable time frame that you’d like to have your house cleaned by.
  • Be precise: Be really precise with your gameplan. Don’t just say, “I want to have my whole house cleaned by tomorrow,” That’s just too vague. Instead, say something like, “by tomorrow afternoon at 2 PM I will have [this room], [this room], and [this room] of my house completely cleaned,” … and so on.
  • Choose a starting point: Pick the room or place in your house that you will start, and the place that you will end with. Then, write down in what order you’ll clean the rooms of your house.

This step may sound extreme (you may be thinking, “why don’t I just choose a room to clean in and wing it from there?… as long as I get all the rooms cleaned, I’m good.”), but being precise and deciding the order that you’ll clean each room of your house in is exactly what will take away cleaning overwhelm.

It’s exactly what will stop you from wasting time thinking, “okay… I’ve got the office cleaned. What should I clean next?”.

It will also stop you from jumping around from half-done task to half-done task. Instead, you’ll be motivated to fully finish a room before moving on to the next.
  • Write It Down: Now that you’ve got your gameplan outlined, write it all down. Write down your main goal or two, when you want to be done by, your starting point, and the order that you will clean the rooms of your house in.

“But isn’t this a bit extreme? Why can’t I just think it out in my head?” Sure, you could just think it and go with the flow, but if you’re looking for a fast and easy way to clean your house without wasting any time so that you can be finished sooner, this is the way to do it.

2. Top to bottom, left to right

Cleaning your house in the right order is a key tip when it comes to learning how to clean a house fast and efficiently.

Cleaning from top to bottom, left to right, ensures you only ever clean something once. Instead of starting somewhere in the middle of a room, then dusting up high, and realizing you just knocked dust onto your freshly cleaned surface… and having to clean it again.

Cleaning from left to right gives you structure to work from one side of the room all the way to the other without having to go back on your work and possibly mess up places that have already been cleaned.

3. Use a cleaning caddy, or make your own

Gathering all your tools into a cleaning caddy, or a DIY cleaning caddy, will save you a lot of time from running around the house to gather individual cleaning supplies.

A cleaning caddy will allow you to keep all the cleaning supplies you need (outside of the mop and vacuum) in one place, by your side, without filling your hands up.

You can put your cleaning rags, cleaners, sponges, grout brush (if applicable), dusting mitt, and any other cleaning supplies you need, all in the caddy to have by your side no matter where in the house you’re cleaning.

4. Get rid of clutter first

Clear up the clutter first, then clean. There’s no point in creating extra work for yourself by cleaning around, beneath, and behind objects that aren’t in the correct place and/or you don’t even need.

Quickly go through your house before you start cleaning and get rid of any trash, put items in their proper place, and gather items you no longer want into a box to get rid of later. This isn’t a time for a thorough room-by-room decluttering.

All you’re doing now is putting things away in the right place, getting rid of trash, and putting items you know – without a doubt – that you no longer need into a box to get them out of the way.

If you’re interested in decluttering your home after you’ve tackled the big chore of cleaning it, first, you can find some extremely helpful decluttering tips here.

5. Floors last

Always, always, always remember to clean the floors last. You should never clean the floors, then go back into the room to dust, polish mirrors, and wipe off countertops.

What does that do?

Knocks dirt and grime onto your clean floor. Cleaning the floor should be the very last thing on your cleaning to-do list so that you don’t have to clean it twice (remember – we’re trying to learn how to clean your house fast and efficiently… not in a time-consuming matter that requires you to clean certain things twice).

Conclusion

When it comes to cleaning a house fast and easy, there are just a few minor steps to follow:

  • Make a gameplan (and follow through with it)
  • Clean every room from the top to the bottom, from left to right
  • Use a cleaning caddy to eliminate time wasted running from one room to the next gathering supplies
  • Get rid of clutter before you clean
  • Finish with the floors

Following these 5 extremely simple house cleaning tips will set you on the path to having a beautifully clean home in no time. Want more? Find 9 more house cleaning tips here.

How to Declutter Your Home

[ad_1]

Start Header Img

There are a number of reasons why you might have chosen to read this guide. Perhaps you are tired of listening to your best friend regurgitating Marie Kondo tips that she learned from binge-watching the Netflix series.

Perhaps you are on a mission to streamline your lifestyle and cut down on the amount of housework you have to do (by eliminating clutter, the average home requires 40% less housework!).

Perhaps your clutter has got out of control and you can no longer find your tennis shoes/cat/kitchen!

According to NAPO (the National Association of Professional Organisers — yes, it’s a real thing!), we spend the equivalent of around 12 days a year looking for things we can’t find. If you could free up those 12 wasted days, and reduce your housework by 40%, and end the closet-shame, think about how much easier life would be. Not only would life be easier, but you may also be healthier.

A study conducted at Indiana University, discovered that people who live in clean houses are healthier than those who have untidy homes.

No more emergency tidying when someone is coming round (and then finding boxes of things you shoved under the bed months later when you are looking for something else). No more avoiding rooms because you just don’t know where to start. No more buying take-out because the kitchen is just so cluttered that cooking is a chore.

No more excuses.

Methods

DECLUTTERING METHODS

You know that stressed, frustrated feeling you get when you look around at the clutter and just don’t know how to fix it? As you declutter, those feelings untangle and dissipate.

Every time you clear a space, you are clearing your mind. Follow this guide and it will take you step-by-step to where you want to be.

Here are some of the most popular, tried-and-tested decluttering methods to suit everyone:

Room-by-Room

Take each room at a time and work methodically through it until it is completely decluttered. Anything that belongs in another room gets taken to that room to be dealt with when its turn comes. Perfect if you have problem rooms you need to focus on.

Category-by-Category

Rather than working one room at a time, you can deal with a certain type of clutter at a time, such as a paperwork overload or clothing clutter. This is ideal if you can identify a very specific clutter problem you want to tackle.

The Kon Mari Method

Popular decluttering guru Marie Kondo has created the Kon Mari method, a technique which has gained millions of followers by focusing on the wellbeing benefits of a tidy home. Gather together all of the clutter in your home, ask yourself if each individual item ‘sparks joy’, and eliminate the unnecessary things that you are hoarding.

Swedish Death Cleaning

This is the process of prioritizing and organizing your belongings, usually as you age, so that you leave behind only the things you wish to. The technique is increasingly popular with people of all ages as it involves the positive approach of deciding what is truly important.

Just 10 Things Technique

Simply take a bag or box and fill it with 10 things that you do not need. They may be recycled, binned or donated, but they must leave your home as soon as possible. Make it a regular habit and you will soon see and feel the difference.

Moving Forward Technique

We all accumulate things that are no longer relevant to our lives. Get rid of books you are no longer interested in, clothes that no longer fit, souvenirs from times you don’t care to remember, and move forward.

Tips

DECLUTTERING TIPS

Before we jump into our decluttering system, here are some general tips that will help you get motivated, stay on track, and make the most efficient use of your time.

  1. Make a small start on the decluttering by picking up 5 items right now and getting rid of them by giving them away, recycling or binning them. Enjoy the feeling you get from having made a start and recognize how much better it would feel to do this with the entire home! This is a good tip if you tend to procrastinate.
  2. Be sensible about sentiment; if your house is covered in kids’ art or photographs, take pictures of each piece and then store it away in the attic or a scrapbook. Downscale by holding onto a couple of cups and saucers rather than the whole 40 piece tea set that your great-auntie left you.
  3. Are you surrounded by half-finished things? Get a couple of ‘project boxes’ for the things you truly must keep and store each project and everything it requires inside. If you haven’t made any progress with a project in 3 months, then get rid of it.
  4. Stop the flow of paper! If you are a gatherer of leaflets, catalogs, and mail, then it is time to change. Open your mail beside the recycling bin and get rid of unwanted things immediately. Take pictures of receipts, instructions, notices, and leaflets so you have the information you need without the paper.
  5. Make a list of local places that need donations. This is particularly helpful if you feel guilty about getting rid of things; by decluttering you could be helping others. Listing charities, hospitals, and residential homes will give you an added sense of purpose.
  6. Keep a box in your car so that it is as easy as possible to take unused things out of your home and get them to where they can be useful! Each time you pass a goodwill store, simply take the box in.
  7. Seeing double? Make a list of things you know you have two of. If you could always find the item when you needed it, would you need another? Nobody needs 5 pairs of scissors! Get rid of duplicates and spares.
  8. Think creatively to maximize the potential of every space. Is there space under your bed for storage boxes of out-of-season clothes? How about hooks on the back of your doors? Storage baskets on top of the bookcase? Shelves in an awkwardly shaped alcove?
  9. Never give up your valuable space to accommodate someone else’s clutter. Give back books and clothes you have borrowed, return belongings to your ex, make your brother come round and pick up his bicycle… anything taking up space in your home should be yours.
  10. It is perfectly acceptable to put a waste-paper bin in any room that needs it. If you find yourself gathering trash off the floor or other surfaces, then it’s time to add a bin to the room.
  11. Learn to love the label — if a label on a box makes you more likely to remember what it contains and put things back in it, indulge in some pretty labels and pens and get to work.
  12. Refuse to hoard — if you are holding onto clothes to make memory cushions, storing up corks to make a notice board, or hanging onto craft materials for a hypothetical scrapbook, be honest about whether you truly have time and motivation or if it would actually feel good to let go.

YOUR DECLUTTERING SYSTEM

Set Goals

It is important to decide what you want to achieve before you start.

Visualize what you want your home to look like and how it would change your life. Imagine getting up in the morning and not having to rifle through piles of clothes. Picture how much easier life would be and how much time you would save.

Decide on a timescale. Without this decision, you are much more likely to procrastinate or give up. Make a firm commitment and be specific. Instead of saying, “I’d like the closets to be tidier,” say “By the end of the month, I will donate every unwanted item from our closets and organize the storage so it works effectively for us.”

The Handy 5 Box Rule

We are going to keep this really simple. All you need to begin are 5 bags or boxes to sort the clutter:

  1. Trash: anything that is broken, damaged or unusable should be thrown away.
  2. Recycling: recycle wherever possible.
  3. Sell: ask yourself if it is really worth the time and effort listing lower-value items and if not, donate instead.
  4. Donate: donate to a charity or pass things along to friends. Enjoy the opportunity to help others as you streamline your home.
  5. Keep: these should be things you either need or love. Be ruthless. If something needs to be fixed, only keep it if it’s worth fixing and you truly intend to.

Get Rid of It!

According to the NAPO, “72% of Americans believe they would gain more space in their homes by purging unused items, but 41%… haven’t decluttered for over a year”.

Until those bags are out of your home, they are technically still clutter!

  • Immediately take the trash to the bin; this is going to make the biggest difference to your home.
  • Take recycling to the nearest recycling center as soon as possible, even if it means making a special trip.
  • Starting with the higher value items, list everything for sale as soon as possible. Set yourself a deadline — if it isn’t sold within a month, it gets donated.
  • Put the box of donations in your car and drop them off at the soonest opportunity. Putting them in the car means getting them out of the house and you’ll be much more likely to actually donate them.
  • Divide things that are to be kept into those that should be stored away, and those you need regular access to. Items that can be stored should be packed away and safely stowed in the attic, basement, or garage. Items you want to keep should have a specific place where they belong. Give every item a home, and it will be much more likely to be returned there!

ROOM BY ROOM DECLUTTERING TIPS

Whether you have problem rooms that are crying out for decluttering or you want to work through your entire home, the way you approach different spaces will be different. Let’s take a look at some more specific decluttering tips for each room.

Kitchen2

Decluttering the Kitchen

A tidy kitchen could not only make cooking more enjoyable, but it could have a positive effect on the food choices you make. “Research shows that cluttered kitchens prompted people to eat 44% more of their snack food than a kitchen that was organized and decluttered” (NAPO).

  • Free up bench space by mounting a rack on the wall or on the back of a cupboard door for easy access to small containers such as spices.
  • Simple hooks can be used to wall-mount brushes, dustpans, and mops.
  • Cut down on plastic bags. We all have too many. A plastic bag dispenser is incredibly space-saving for the reusable bags you choose to keep.
  • To save floor space in a smaller kitchen, place the waste bin inside a cupboard.
  • Place half-shelves into kitchen cupboards to give you twice the storage and make it easier to see exactly what you have.
  • It is amazing how dinnerware builds up — get rid of any odd plates, chipped bowls and ask yourself if you really need 26 mugs for a household of four people.
  • Cull your gadget collection — if you haven’t used an item in the past six months, you are unlikely to really need it. Do you really need an olive-stone-remover or a fish de-scaler?
  • Increase your chances of putting things where they belong by storing your most-used items in the most easily accessed places. It will make it easier to prepare food, and easier to clear away.

Bedroom2

Decluttering the Bedroom

Believe it or not, a tidy bedroom could give you that great nights’ sleep you are after! “Research shows that people [who declutter their bedroom] may sleep better at night.”
(Hopkins Medicine)

  • Simplify your nightstand by removing anything that you don’t need right by your bed.
  • Make the most of your drawers by using dividers to create more useable spaces for storing smaller items.
  • Use a jewelry tree or small hooks to easily store jewelry.
  • Over-door hangers or hooks are a great way to keep bathrobes and cardigans off the floor/bed/chair and within easy reach.
  • Store shoes and bags that you only use for special occasions or spare bedding/blankets inside your luggage and stow under the bed or in the bottom of a cupboard.
  • Minimize your vanity clutter by getting rid of any cosmetics and accessories that are old or unwanted. Throw them out or pass them to a friend.
  • Keep appliances such as hairdryers, straighteners or curlers in a basket with the accessories you might need when using them.
  • Do you really need a chair in the bedroom? If it is only ever used as a place to drape clothes or stack books, then get rid of it and enjoy more floor space.

Kids Room2

Decluttering the Kids Rooms

Of all the rooms in the house, kids’ rooms are probably the places that accumulate the most unwanted clutter, simply because children develop so quickly that before you know it they have grown out of the toys, clothing, and books that just months ago they were growing into!

  • Kids grow out of clothes quickly; only keep items that fit well. Items that are too big should be stored in a box under the bed or on top of the wardrobe — label the box with the size.
  • Display kids’ collections on photo shelves on the walls, or in transparent craft-storage boxes so they can see their treasures without covering every available surface.
  • Use cheap poster frames to display a few of their favorite posters/works of art, rather than having lots of torn pictures peeling off the walls.
  • Children grow out of books as well as clothes — regularly ask them to choose books to donate to younger children, and then move them to a younger child’s room or donate to charity.
  • When you buy a toy with many pieces, buy a lidded box that it fits into. Small individual boxes are easier to access than big mixed toyboxes that need to be tipped out.
  • Memory boxes are fantastic; let the child choose the most precious items to keep.
  • Soft toys can be stored in handy nets or toy hammocks on the walls.
  • Install hooks at the child’s level so they can reach them easily.

Hallway2

Decluttering the Entrance Hall

As the first place you see when you enter the home, the entrance hall is an important place. If it is messy and cluttered, your mood instantly alters. Of course, because it is the first place you reach, it also can become a dumping ground for coats, shoes, and countless other things.

  • A large basket for outdoor shoes will keep them all in one place and keep floors clean and clear.
  • A bowl in the entrance hall is handy for spare change and keys, eliminating the frantic morning search for car keys.
  • Label coat hooks with names, and add another row of hooks below to hang bags or baskets for hats/gloves/scarves, etc.
  • Make use of wasted space in the entrance hall with slimline storage units or bookcases. Even a narrow or shallow storage unit can be useful.
  • A two-part system with an inbox for important mail and a wastepaper basket for junk mail to be recycled/binned will cut down on paper clutter.
  • A noticeboard in the entrance hall is a great place to post reminders, lists, and notes as it is the last thing you see before you leave the house.
  • Cut down on photo clutter on surfaces by turning your hallway wall or staircase wall into a photo gallery.
  • An ottoman or storage bench is an ideal place to stow bags or toys out of sight.

Office2

Decluttering the Home Office

Whether you work from home or have a study for keeping on top of paperwork, it is difficult to keep the home office from absorbing clutter from other rooms. A tidy office boosts productivity and puts an end to procrastination!

  • Keep family clutter out of the office space — remove everything not required for work.
  • Cables, chargers and leads can be a hazard as well as a major source of clutter; a cable sorter is invaluable (no more detangling!).
  • Test your stationery — you might be surprised at how many pens don’t work and how many notebooks are filled. Throw away anything no longer useful; never return a dry pen to the pen pot.
  • Check for duplicates of documents; there is no point having paper copies of documents already stored digitally.
  • Shred unwanted paperwork immediately — shredded paper doesn’t join a pile of unsorted paperwork!
  • Clear your noticeboard every Monday — a cluttered noticeboard is pointless as we simply ignore it. Keep just 10 tacks to pin things up and don’t buy any more.
  • Keep a cloth or some cleaning wipes in the office so you can easily and quickly wipe down surfaces — the home office is one of the places we often forget to clean.
  • Arrange your desk drawers for maximum productivity. Put the items you use most frequently into the top drawer, and those you use rarely into the bottom. Every Monday get rid of things from the bottom drawer that you haven’t used.

Living

Decluttering the Living Room

As the room where you are most likely to spend time relaxing, it makes sense to declutter and keep it tidy so that it is easier and more enjoyable to hang out in. The living room is for living, it doesn’t have to be an empty space, but great storage and display areas will transform the way you live in it.

  • Look up for unused space — ensure storage units and bookcases offer you maximum storage by extending them all the way to the ceiling using additional shelves or boxes.
  • Choose a coffee table or side table with storage inside for toys, blankets, or other bulky items.
  • Wall-mount the television and install a shelf below for electronics so you can ditch the bulky storage unit in favor of more floor space.
  • Reduce the number of photographs, postcards, and other paper mementos and swap for a multi-aperture frame on the wall or album.
  • Cut down on unnecessary furnishings — get rid of surplus scatter cushions, curtains that pool on the floor and stick to just one rug.
  • Instead of displaying everything you own, cut back on ornaments and knick-knacks by getting rid of those you don’t absolutely love, and storing half of them away so that you can rotate your display.
  • Get rid of unwanted magazines and get hold of some magazine files for any you really want to keep.
  • Keep a basket in the living room that is for things that belong upstairs. When it is full, take it up and put everything away.

Laundry2

Decluttering the Laundry Room

The laundry room can be crucial for keeping your home free from clothing clutter. Whether you have a small laundry station or a larger room to work with, streamlining this area can cut down the time you spend sorting, washing, drying, and folding.

  • Simplify your cleaning supplies by sticking to a couple of quality, multi-purpose cleaning products, and reusable cloths. Store them in a bucket and take them with you from room to room as you clean.
  • Wall-mounted ironing boards and irons save space and are less likely to get damaged.
  • If you don’t already have kitchen cupboards in the laundry room, make the most of wall space above the worktop with wall units or shelves with storage boxes
  • Don’t let odd socks, things that need mending and stained items clutter the workspace; peg odd socks up to await matches and get rid of items that are beyond use.
  • Don’t hang clothes from chairs or door handles; install a clothes rail so that you can safely hang clothes and prevent them from getting wrinkled or dusty.
  • Keep a handheld vacuum cleaner in the laundry room for getting rid of lint, fluff, and dust.
  • Put a spare change jar in the laundry area — save any coins left in pockets towards a treat.
  • Separate baskets for lights, darks, and delicates mean you can stop sorting laundry piles on the floor or bench.

Bathroom2

Decluttering the Bathroom

Most of us have too many lotions and potions in our bathrooms, and you might be surprised how many items are hiding away in cabinets or on shelves that you are not intending to use! Save valuable space, cut down on dust and create a relaxing haven in your bathroom.

  • Empty your medicine cabinet, throwing away anything that you don’t use or that may be past its best.
  • Store the items you use most often at eye level for easy access.
  • If you buy multiple items or stock up on supplies when they are on offer, keep them in a separate lidded box until they’re needed.
  • Eliminate unnecessary decorative items — does the smallest room in the house really need decorative bottles or wooden boats taking up space?
  • Minimize window clutter — if you have privacy glass, you don’t really need a blind in the bathroom.
  • Utilize the space under your sink with a cupboard that hides the pedestal.
  • Choose mirrored bathroom cupboards instead of having a mirror on the wall.
  • Every bathroom should have a bin — store small bin liners in the room so it is easy to quickly empty it.

Closet2

Decluttering Closets

We all have far more clothes than we really need (and yet it often feels like we’ve nothing to wear!) Being more careful about what we keep and what we buy can transform how we feel about our closets, and that can change how we feel about the way we look. “In 1930, the average American woman owned nine outfits. Today, that figure is 30 outfits – one for every day of the month.” (NAPO)

  • Declutter clothing by type, start with something simple like the underwear drawer; finish it before you move on.
  • Turn all of your clothes hangers one way. Each time you wear something, return it to the closet with the hanger the other way around. You’ll be surprised to find how many items weren’t worn after 3 months — time to donate!
  • Roll or fold items and place them vertically instead of horizontally (as if ‘filing’ them) so you can see what you have without making a mess.
  • Tie hangers also come in very handy for scarves and belts, and can save you valuable space that would otherwise be lost.
  • Store small handbags inside larger bags (once you have donated any you no longer want or use!)
  • If items often fall off hangers, opt for velvet coated hangers that are designed to be non-slip.
  • Utilize unused space below hanging racks by placing a shoe-rack in the bottom of the wardrobe.
  • Make the most of the top of your closet — a shelf in a built-in closet or boxes on top of a wardrobe can make a huge difference to your available storage.

Garage2

Decluttering the Garage

The garage can become the ultimate storage area for things that we don’t quite know what to do with, projects we haven’t got around to or things the children have outgrown. Garage space can make up a large proportion of the space you own, so why waste it? “60 percent of parents admit they’ve been unable to park their car in the garage due to their overflowing belongings”. (NAPO)

  • Utilize old wardrobes and chests of drawers in the garage to store items.
  • A peg-board provides excellent versatile storage for tools and cables and is easy to make.
  • Re-use glass jars to store screws and other small items. They look great labeled and lined up.
  • Use heavy-duty hooks to keep larger garden tools safely off the floor.
  • Bicycles can be easily mounted on the wall to increase the usable floor space.
  • Throw away old, unwanted, or damaged outdoor toys. Store smaller toys such as bats and balls in wheeled storage bins that can be easily pushed outside when needed.
  • Offer outgrown bicycles, scooters, and other toys to charity or quickly sell them on. These are always in high demand and often show little wear.
  • Don’t let your garage become a dumping ground for items you don’t know what to do with! Don’t keep things ‘just in case’. Either let it go to someone who needs it, or dump it — few things are more valuable than the space you are freeing up!

Attic Basement2

Decluttering the Attic and Basement

If you dread the thought of going into the attic or basement because of the seemingly endless number of things you might find, then you can be sure there is stuff hiding away that you no longer need or want. If you can’t even get into these areas properly, then it is time to rid your home of unwanted clutter and reclaim your space.

  • These are well-known ‘junk amnesia’ areas — if you find something you didn’t know you had, then you don’t need it!
  • Start by getting rid of the largest items, this will clear space for you to work and give you a motivational sense of accomplishment.
  • Make decisions — don’t leave anything for ‘later’. The key to sorting out problem areas such as attics and basements is working methodically, fully dealing with each item as you reach it.
  • Invest in strong, wheeled storage boxes; the wheels will enable you to maneuver them easily when you are looking for something.
  • Don’t neglect these areas when it comes to effective storage — cheap storage furniture (nobody will see it!) transforms the space, giving you easier access than piles on the floor!
  • Ensure you have good lighting in areas that tend to be dark. This will help you identify clutter before it can build up.
  • Everything in the attic and basement should be clearly labeled so that you don’t undo your decluttering when searching for something.
  • Vacuum as you go — the attic and basement tend to be the dustiest parts of the home, and this can make it unpleasant work. Clean as you go; it will be much more rewarding.

FUTURE-PROOF YOUR HOME FROM CLUTTER

Once you have decluttered, it is essential that you set in place good habits so that you don’t end up back in the same situation again. When you future-proof your home from clutter, you spend less time tidying and more time enjoying your home. That’s not to say that no clutter will ever build up again — of course it will, but with these management strategies it will be so much easier to eliminate!

  • Look around, if you see an item that does not have an official, designated home where it should stay, then give it one and stick to it.
  • Commit to buying better. Instead of opting for cheap throwaway fashion, choose quality pieces that are classic and versatile. Be more selective and choose quality over quantity.
  • Admire your work. When you have decluttered an area, spend time in it and make a genuine commitment to keeping it clutter-free.
  • Invite people round. There is nothing that makes you more suddenly aware of clutter than an eminent visitor. It is also a chance to enjoy your home without embarrassment.
  • Don’t get sucked in with multibuy offers for products you don’t need. It is not a saving if it costs you your space.
  • Have a ‘one-in-one-out’ rule for decorative items. Only buy something if you love it enough to replace an existing belonging. This will automatically make you more selective.
  • Allow yourself one junk drawer — just make sure that once it is full, you clear it out.
  • Eliminate paper wherever possible; opt for paperless billing, email receipts, and digital manuals.

The Roomba 675 is a budget option Roomba. It doesn’t have the latest technology of the Roomba 980, i7 or i7+ but it is a great budget option.

What is the difference between the Roomba 650 and 690?

The Roomba 690 is one of the latest models offered by IRobot and is an upgrade on the popular Roomba 650 model.

It has the same features as the Roomba 650, however, the main difference is the Roomba 690 has an iRobot HOME App that lets you clean and schedule conveniently and is compatible on devices with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant.

Another difference is the the Roomba 690 has Lithium Ion batteries and comes with a dual mode virtual wall technology.

What is the difference between the Roomba 614, 675 and 690?

Roomba has come out with a number of budget options. The Roomba 614 is the bare bones version of the Roomba 690. It does not have WIFI capability and it does not come with a dual mode virtual wall.

The Roomba 675 is another budget option recently introduced by Roomba. This Roomba however does not come with a dual mode virtual wall.

Design and Accessories
The Roomba 690 has a virtual wall barrier that can work in halo mode. This mode prevents the Roomba from going near such objects as a dogs water dish or a cat litter. It also prevents the Roomba from entering certain areas in your house.

Navigation
The Roomba 690 uses the iAdapt navigation technology. All the Roombas in the 600, 700 and 800 series are based on this navigation technology.

The 900 series uses iAdapt 2.0 navigation technology which utilizes a visual localization camera that allows you to map out your house.

The Roombas in the i7 and i7+ series use iAdapt 3.0 navigation.

The iAdapt navigation technology is an advanced system of software and sensors that allow the Roomba to clean a room more thoroughly. The vacuum uses up to 40 robotic behaviors and more than 60 decisions per second to ensure that every section of your house is clean.

You will find the Roomba will make multiple passes over the same area to make sure your house is clean, similar to how a human would do when cleaning in real life.

So how does this translate to your home? Reviewers love the fact that this vacuum can clean under dressers, sofas and other hard to reach areas. The Roomba is also able to navigate around stationary items.

A few reviewers have mentioned that the Roomba will take light items for a ride around your house so before starting the Roomba you might want to remove some of the clutter from your floor.

Alternatively some reviewers have mentioned that the Roomba tends to bang into the base boards leaving scruff marks. You can put rubber door stripping on your Roomba to solve this problem.

Something you should consider is a few reviewers stated that the Roomba wouldn’t clean black lines or areas on their rug. This is because of the cliff sensors on the Roomba. If you are planning to purchase, this is something you should keep in mind.

Cleaning Performance
A robot vacuum is not meant to be a replacement for an upright vacuum when it comes to cleaning power. That being said think of how much time you have freed up.

Additionally, if you are scheduling the Roomba to clean everyday you will end up with an extremely clean house. This is especially handy if you have animals and have to clean up after them constantly. All the Roombas in the 600 series use Aero vac technology.

The 800 and 900 series use Aeroforce technology which provides greater cleaning power.

How does it differ from the vacuums in the 900 series?
The Roomba i7+ is the latest vacuum in the Roomba line of vacuums. Some of the main differences from the Roombas in the 900 series are listed below

  • Doesn’t have the Carpet Boost feature of the Roomba 980?
  • Unlike the Roombas in the 900 series you can select which rooms you want cleaned.
  • Unlike the Roombas in the 900 series it has a self-emptying bin.

How does it differ from the i7?
The Roomba i7+ is exactly the same as the Roomba i7. The only difference is the Roomba i7+ comes with a self-emptying dust bin.

Navigation system
Imprint smart mapping. You can control which rooms are cleaned. So if you only want your Kitchen cleaned you can do so.

Roomba states that this vacuum has 10 times the vacuuming power of the Roombas in the 600 series.

The Roomba i7+ uses a high efficiency filter which is more efficient than the Aeroforce filters used in the previous models.

Other Roomba Overviews

Roomba s9+

The Roomba s9+ has all the features of the Roomba s9 such as more powerful suction and more advanced cleaning technology but it comes with the automatic dirt disposal bin.

Roomba s9

This roomba has more suction power than the Roomba i7 and i7+.  Roomba has also changed the shape of the vacuum.

This roomba also introduces PerfectEdgeâ„¢ Technology that encompasses several new attributes, including a maximized edge design, 30 percent wider Dual Rubber Brushes than previous generations, a specially designed corner brush, and advanced, patented 3D sensors that constantly scan ahead of the robot, helping it to clean close to walls and into corners.

Roomba i7+

The Roomba i7+ is one of the top robotic vacuums out there. It is the only product of its type in that it offers a self-emptying dust bin.

This vacuum also runs for 75 minutes on a single charge, creates virtual maps and can report via the app on which areas have been covered. Similar body to the I7 model but is has a self-emptying dust bin.

Roomba i7

The i7 is identical in terms of design and has the same high performance of the i7+; however ,it does not offer the self-emptying bin feature, which means it is cheaper but not quite as cutting edge.

Roomba i3 (3150)

Similar to the i7 model. It has the same vacuuming power, the charge and resume feature, and the same cleaning pattern. The only difference is it does not have the smart mapping function. So you can’t instruct this robot vacuum to clean specific rooms. You also can’t create clean zones or keep out zones.

Roomba i3+ (3550)

The i3+ is identical in terms of design and has the same high performance of the i3. The main difference is it has the self-emptying bin feature, which means it costs more than the i3 model.

Roomba 980

The 980 is very similar to the 960, except for the fact that it has a carpet power boost option which can be great for thicker rugs and carpeting.

It also differs from the Roomba 960 in that it has a longer runtime of 120 minutes compared to the 75 minutes of the Roomba 960.

Another way it differs from the Roomba 960 is it comes with two dual mode virtual walls.

Roomba 960

The Roombas in the 900 series have the recharge and resume cleaning function which allows them to clean multiple rooms. It comes with a one dual mode virtual wall. These vacuums also have WIFI capability.

Roomba e5

The e5 vacuum is a very new product compared to some of the others. It is similar in size and specifications to the 890 model, but has more power in terms of cleaning.

Though not as powerful as the i7 range, it does have easy control through smartphones via the app. (all if the more recent Roombas offer this).

It has better cleaning performance than the Roomba 890 but doesn’t have the navigation or cleaning performance. of the newer models such as the Roomba i7 and i7+

Roomba 890

The 890 has spot cleaning, dirt and drop detection and of course the scheduling features on offer with other 800 series Roombas. It also has Wi-Fi control which not all of the Roombas in the 800 series have.

The 890 has impressive AeroForce filtration and gives plenty of vacuuming power. Note however, it doesn’t have the recharge and restart feature of the Roomba 960 or Roomba 980.

Roomba 880

The Roomba 880 is almost exactly the same as the 890 in terms of design and power but doesn’t have the Wi-Fi controls for working with Alexa.

It can be scheduled and has the virtual wall function which lets you just vacuum one area. A powerful model just with no Wi-Fi option.

Roomba 805

The 805 is similar to much of the rest of this range though it has a dual rubberized brush roll and also has two dual mode virtual wall barriers which are a nice addition as many of the other Roombas only have one.

Roomba 870

The 870 is very similar to a lot of the 700 range, just slightly more advanced with improved brushes with anti-tangling technology. It has the AeroForce cleaner that isn’t in many of the 700 series too.

Roomba 860

The Roomba 860 is a little harder to get your hands on. It has a lighter, silver design and the key difference is that it has the newer style of virtual barrier.

Roomba 790

The 790 has been discontinued in some places, but if you can still get it, it has its merits. A blue body design includes the older AeroVac system of cleaning and it has lighthouse style virtual barriers. This also offers a remote control.

Roomba 780

This isn’t as powerful as the newer models, and again has been discontinued in many areas. You can schedule cleaning and like much of the 700 series it has a remote control, though it does use the older AeroVac system.

Roomba 770

770 Roombas are good for those with allergies but require a dual filter which means spending twice as much on maintenance. Newer AeroForce Roombas don’t need this, so are preferable.

Roomba 760

The Roomba 760 is quite a primitive model with the older AeroForce filters and filters. It is not recommended and hard to find as it has been discontinued.

Roomba 690

The 690 is a combination of the AeroVac system but some of the smart features which have become very popular. The price tag is a little bit lower than the 800 or 900 series.

Roomba 680

The 680 has a 3 stage system for cleaning small particles and large unwanted debris alike. The sensors can detect areas of dirt. Though this doesn’t have Wi-Fi capabilities it is programmable and convenient.

Roomba 675

The Roomba 675 uses the older filter system and doesn’t have an indicator when the bin is full. Though the run time isn’t amazing this does have Wi-Fi options and can be scheduled too, and considering the price this is quite impressive. This Roomba has 90 minutes run time.

Roomba 665

The 665 uses the earlier type of iAdapt navigation and doesn’t support Wi-Fi. You can schedule cleaning, and this also comes with a dual-mode virtual barrier.

Roomba 650

This is a much more modern product than some of the rest of the 600 series and is highly rated. It has the full iAdapt navigation, three stage cleaning system and can be scheduled 7 times a week if needed. It can also dock and recharge itself. This Roomba has 60 minutes run time. This Roomba does not have Wi-Fi capabilities.

Roomba 620

The 620 is another very basic model, but comes in a lighter design and is more modern than the 614, to which it is most similar. The 620 is very highly reviewed and though it isn’t programmable it has the basic cleaning functions and a very reasonable price.

Roomba 614

The Roomba 614 is arguably the ‘base’ model of their products so the Wi-Fi functions and extra power functions aren’t there, and it can’t be scheduled. It also doesn’t have a virtual wall barrier. However, it can spot clean and has features including dirt and drop detection, plus it can easily navigate the space.

Roomba 500 series

The 500 Series of Roombas was a very early iteration and has now been discontinued. It had the more primitive version of the filters and navigation and no Wi-Fi or smart capacities.

Buying a 500 series would be like buying the original iPhone, it is therefore not recommended. However, it is interesting to see where the Roomba came from.

Roomba Buying Guide

A Roomba vacuum is an expensive purchase and we are sure a lot of questions are going to crop up during the buying process. We have tried our best to address some of the questions that will invariably crop up in our buying guide below:

Do you have dark carpet or flooring?

If you have dark flooring or carpets a Roomba vacuum is probably not the best option for you. The Roomba vacuums don’t work very well on dark flooring.

Do you have Carpets?

A robot vacuum is not ideal for high pile carpets. However, if you have low pile or medium pile carpets a Roomba vacuum is an ideal candidate.

Two options if you have carpets are the [easyazon_link identifier=”B0175EJUW2″ locale=”US” tag=”whichroomba-20″]Roomba 980[/easyazon_link] which has a carpet boost feature that increases cleaning power on carpets.

The Roombas in the i7 series also have more cleaning power which should be suitable for carpets.

Do you plan to use the Roomba for Multi-rooms?

When making your Roomba model comparison, look for one that is able to navigate multiple rooms. This feature is not a must have but it is useful for people who have large houses.

The Roomba 880 can clean 3 multiple rooms. The Roomba 960 and Roomba 980 can handle multiple rooms.

The Roomba in the i7 series (The Roomba i7 & i7+) can not only clean multiple rooms but it can clean specific rooms. For example can tell your Roomba to clean the Kitchen or the Living Room.

Do you have a large house?

If you have a large house you want to consider a Roomba vacuum that can handle multiple rooms and will automatically resume cleaning where it stopped if you run out of battery time. You will also want to consider a Roomba with a long battery time.

The Roomba 960, 980, i7 & i7+ will resume their cleaning job once they recharge. All the other Roomba vacuums don’t have this option, they have to be restarted.

Battery Running Time

Depending on which Roomba model you select the battery running time will be from 60 minutes to 120 minutes. All Roomba vacuum will automatically return to the home base to recharge.

Please note that only the Roomba 960, 980, i7 & i7+ will return to their previous cleaning job after recharging and finish their previous cleaning job. All other Roomba models will have to be restarted so they can continue cleaning.

Type of Battery

The newer model Roomba vacuums such as the Roomba 652, 690, 860, 890, 960, 980, i7, i7+ vacuums all use Lithium-Ion batteries.

The other models use Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. Lithium-Ion batteries provide longer cleaning sessions and tend to last longer.

Are you concerned that your Roomba will cause scuff marks on your walls and furniture?

To prevent this situation all of the Roomba vacuums have a soft touch bumper. This mechanism prevents the Roomba from bumping quite hard into your furniture and walls and leaving scruff marks.

Do you have Pets?

A Roomba vacuum is a great option if you have pets. You don’t have to vacuum up pet hair every day, simply schedule your Roomba and you are good to go.

The Roomba does all the work for you. One thing to keep in mind is you are better off purchasing a Roomba that has a tangle free debris extractors that are designed to remove dirt and hair without becoming tangled up in the brushes. An added plus is they increase the efficiency of the Roomba vacuum. You can click here to read a more in-depth review on the best Roombas for pets.

We are aware Roombas can be expensive. The best time to get a deal is during black friday and cyber monday where you can get some great discounts.

Do you have Hardwood Floors?

If you have hardwood floors we would recommend a Roomba vacuum in the 800, e5, 900 or i7 series. These vacuums utilize tangle free debris extractors instead of bristle brushes.

In our conversation with Roomba customer care they stated that some customers had mentioned that the bristles on the earlier models had scratched some hardwood floors. You can click here to read our reviews of the best Roombas for hardwood floors.

What is iAdapt Responsive Cleaning Technology?

This technology addresses the following:

Finds dirt and debris: The Roomba uses optical and acoustic sensors to find dirt and debris. The Roomba can therefore concentrate on the areas of your home that really needs to be cleaned.

Human like Cleaning: The Roomba mimics the way we would clean a house or an apartment. In areas where dirt is detected it uses a back and forth cleaning pattern.

Cleans along wall edges: Don’t let the shape of the Roomba fool you! The Roomba has wall following technology that allows you to efficiently clean wall edges.

Helps to avoid tangles: Your Roomba needs little supervision. It can navigate cords, carpet fringes and other items effectively.

Don’t have to put a lot of effort into Room preparation: One of the beauties of a Roomba is it is able to manoeuvre around a cluttered or heavily furnished room quite easily.

Avoids Stairs: Roomba has cliff detector sensors so there is no risk of your Roomba tumbling down the stairs.

Has a lot of respect for your furniture: Your Roomba has a healthy respect for your furniture. With its soft touch bumper cushions you don’t have to worry about scruff marks.!

Pushes gently past soft obstacles: The light touch bumper technology can discern soft items from hard items and act accordingly.

What is iAdapt 2.0?

The Roomba 900 series models have iAdapt 2.0 technology. This means the vacuums are able to navigate an entire level of your home and keep track of its locations.

This vacuum has all of the features of the iAdapt 2.0 but it includes visual localization camera and floor tracking sensors.

What is iAdapt 3.0?

This advanced navigation technology is available in the i7 series.

Roomba has a patented iAdapt® 3.0 Navigation with vSLAM® technology that allows the robot to map its surroundings to seamlessly and efficiently clean an entire level of your home.

The robot creates visual landmarks to keep track of where it’s been and where it has yet to clean.

What is the 3-Stage Cleaning System?

Roomba has a 3-stage cleaning system that has dual multi-surface brushes, an edge-sweeping brush and suction.

What are Debris Extractors?

Debris extractors were introduced in the 800 series Roomba vacuums. The previous vacuuns in the 600 and 700 series used brushes to grab debris.

The debris extractors on the 800, e5, 900 and i7 series Roombas grab and breakdown the debris and in the process eliminating hair tangles and jams.

This is a plus if you are going to vacuum up a lot of hair. Along with the debris extractors, an airflow accelerator that creates a sealed channel that concentrates airflow and thus helps to suck in more debris was introduced.

What are Roomba virtual Walls? How do Roomba Virtual Walls Work?

A virtual wall is a tower that creates an invisible barrier that Roomba won’t cross. That makes it easy to confine Roomba to a particular room or area, and prevent it from getting too close to anything delicate or dangerous.

What are Roomba Lighthouses? How does the Roomba Lighthouse works?

A virtual lighthouse is similar to a virtual wall. This lighthouse allows you to have sequential room to room cleaning. The lighthouse confines the Roomba to one room.

When the Roomba is finished cleaning the lighthouse allows the Roomba to move on to the next room. The virtual lighthouse can also act as a virtual wall depending on the mode selected and can be used to block off certain areas in your home where you don’t want the Roomba to go.

What is a dual mode virtual wall barriers

This is basically a virtual wall tower. The Dual mode barrier gives you greater control over where your robot cleans.

Virtual Wall Mode keeps your robot in the rooms you want cleaned and out of the ones you don’t want to.

There is also a halo mode that will prevent your Roomba from going near certain items. For example if you do not want your Roomba to go near the dogs water dish.

How long does it take a Roomba to clean a Room?

The time that a Roomba will take to clean a room will depend on a number of factors such as room size, model vacuum, whether your room has carpet or not and the amount of clutter and furniture in the room.

However according to the manufacturers of the Roomba, the general runtime is about 45 minutes to a hour for a room that is 325 sq. ft.

Which Roomba have WIFI?

The Roomba’s 690, 890, e5, 960, 980, i7 & i7+ all come with WIFI technology.

Which Roomba has the largest bins?

The Roomba 980 has the largest bin. The Roomba in the i7+ series have self-emptying bins.

Are Roomba Filters Washable?

We contacted Roomba customer care and they stated that they do do not recommend washing the filters of the Roomba 700 to 900 series. The folks at Roomba stated that the 600 series uses Aero Vac filters that can be washed but it needs to be properly dried before installing.

What is AeroVac Technology?

If you are purchasing a vacuum in the 600 series you will see this term pop up. This technology is the predecessor to the more advanced AeroForce technology.

What is AeroForce Technology?

The aeroforce cleaning system is found in the Roomba 800 and 900 series. This technology allows the Roomba to clean up to 50% more dirt and debris than ever before.

Dual counter-rotating extractors incorporate a durable rubber tread design that grab and break down dirt and debris from any floor type. This brush-less design improves cleaning performance with unique angle threads that guide debris into the vacuum field.

The airflow accelerator brings the vacuum power right down to the floor surface that creates a sealed channel that concentrates the airflow and multiplies the vacuum power.

Which Roomba Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant?

The following models work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant: The Roomba 690, 890, e5, 960, 980, i7 and i7+ models.

If you have Multiple Rooms, Which Roomba works best?

If you want to clean multiple rooms the Roomba 880,960, 980, i7 and i7+ are the best options. The Roomba 880 can clean up to three rooms.

The Roomba 960 and 980 can clean multiple rooms. If the Roomba runs out of battery power it will recharge and resume the cleaning job where it stopped.

The Roombas i7 & i7+ can clean specific rooms.

Which vacuum is better?

Shark Lz601, Apex Uplight Lift-Away Duoclean With Self-Cleaning Brushroll Stick Vacuum 0.66 Qt, Forest Mist Blue
We would recommend the LZ601 model. Both of these models are pretty similar so we would go with the one that has the more perceived vacuuming power.
We also feel the LZ601 has more maneuverability since it has a detachable pod that makes the vacuum ideal for cleaning hard to reach areas and above ground areas.
If you look at these two models they both have duo clean and zero m technology, similar size dust cup capacity and a similar weight.

What is Duo Clean Technology

The implementation of duo clean technology (allows for more efficient cleaning on both hardwood floors and carpets.

The dual brush roll allows the vacuum to pick up large particles, small particles and stuck-on dust that you would usually find on hardwood floors.

The bristle brush is ideal for cleaning carpets and the soft brush roll pulls in larger particles and work on floors to provide a more polished look.

What is Zero M Cleaning Brush Roll

Most of us are familiar with the problem, of hair wrapping around the brush roll of our vacuums and having to manually remove the hair.

Shark has alleviated this problem with the Zero M self-cleaning brushroll. As their slogan says “we remove the hair wrapped around the brush roll so you don’t have to”.

The self-cleaning brush roll has a series of protrusions that constantly remove hair from the brush roll as you vacuum.
